Why Add MedPay To Your Car Insurance?
MedPay, or Medical Pay Benefits, is an additional coverage that can be added to your California car insurance policy. It pays the cost of necessary medical care you receive as a result of an accident and can be used regardless of who is at fault. MedPay covers you while you are walking, riding with a friend, or using public transportation, regardless of who is driving, and there are no deductibles or co-pays.
MedPay insurance is not required on your California car insurance policy. It may seem redundant to your health insurance policy, but consider costs related to ambulance fees, chiropractic, dental, prostetics, co-pays and deductibles that you could be saddled with in the event of an accident. If you have a health insurance policy with a $1,000 deductible, a 20 percent co-pay and you have a $5,000 medical claim from a car accident, you would end up paying $1,800. With MedPay coverage added to your California car insurance policy, you wouldn't pay anything.
Your initial reaction may be that you pay enough in California car insurance premiums as it is. But consider the fact that MedPay costs less than $20 per year, and the money you would save on just one claim could pay for that premium a hundred times over or more. It's a small amount of money that can provide you with a great deal of peace of mind.
